Children's Mental Health Week - Year 2

As part of Children's Mental Health Week Year 2 have been talking about ways to keep their minds healthy.

We listened to the story of 'Winnie the Worrywart' and made our own worry monsters. Worry monsters are great because they read your worries and munch them up so you no longer need to worry about them. 

Chinese cooking and banquet

In Design and Technology Year 2 have designed and made their own vegetable spring rolls. Today they used equipment safely to cut, grate and fry vegetables. To celebrate we had a Chinese banquet and even tried hard to use chopsticks. We enjoyed opening our fortune cookies at the end. 

CHINA - BEIJING

In Geography Year 2 are learning all about China. Today we found out about the capital city of China, Beijing. We compared China to our capital city of London. We sorted photographs of the capital cities into two groups.

Science Week 2020

This week all of our classes have been focussing on a science topic. 

Year 1 - Animals inc Humans

Year 2 - Animals inc Humans

Year 3 - Forces and Magnets

Year 4 - States of Matter

Year 5 - Forces

Year 6 - Light

Children have been observing changes, finding patterns, classifying and identifying, researching and performing all kinds of interesting, fun and crazy experiements!

Speak to your child and ask them what they have learnt this week.

Science Experiments with Adrian!

We've had a fantastic morning performing some different experiments with Adrian. We've been finding out about materials that float or sink! Seeing which shape rolls the best! And which material is the most "absorbent".

We've learned 5 very important scientific words: predict; test; measure; classify and observe. Can you remember what they all mean?

KS1 fundraising for Children in Need

Our KS1 children had great fun on Friday raising money for Children in Need! In our team point groups, we took part in four different challenges:

*passing a balloon over and under

*trying to transfer malteasers from one bowl to another using only a straw

*moving a cookie from our forehead into our mouth by only wiggling our faces

*cup stacking

There was lots of laughing and team spirit as the children cheered each other on! School raised over £400 for the charity.

European Day of Languages

Year 2 worked hard on developing their geographical skills during European Day of Languages. The children looked at a map of Europe; talked about the different languages and cultures and then located each country on a map.

Lyme goes to the Bakery on Pudding Lane

This afternoon we worked together on a bit of baking!

Thomas Farrinor- the baker who started the Great Fire of London in 1666, was believed to be making some cakes which caused the fire. Take a look at our own version of his cakes! 

Swinging around 3G style!

Jacob's Ladder or MY LADDER?

One of the toughest challenges we faces was climbing Jacob's Ladder. We had to work together in teams to help reach the top! 

Well done to Candice, Lacey-Wade and Mia who conquered the ladder and reached the top!

Robin Hoods In the Making!

This Year, Year 2 had the very exciting adventure of going to Colomendy and having their first residential!

As part of Health and Well Being week, we had a special visit from Liam who was a scooting expert! We tried lots of different tricks. Take a look at our fun- there were some crashes but we kept on going!

Visting the Dragons of China in Arts Week

Throughout Arts Week we have had the opportunity to explore lots of different parts of the Chinese Culture. We tried different Dragon dances, sculpted a Terracotta Army and designed some Willow Patterns. Take a look at our work! 

Knowsley Safari Park

To introduce ourselves to our new topic 'How would a dinosaur make a zookeeper happy?', we went on a trip to Knowsley Safari Park to find out more about different animals and their habitats. 

Science Week and Dino Dung!

Throughout this week, we have been celebrating science and famous scientists.

We had the treat of watching a science show and then undertook some science experiments related to our new topio- How would a zookeeper make a dinosaur happy? We began to disect dinosaur dung to find out if it was a carnivore, herbivore or an omnivore. It was a very messy job! 

Rugby with the Saints

We were very lucky to take part in a rugby workshop led by James Roby and the other Saints players. We even got to meet Boots the mascot!

Some Children were selected today to represent Lyme at the James Roby 'Tag' Rugby trophy at Newton Storm RLFC. Team Lyme did us proud scoring lots of tries and making some fantastic tackles. The children then got to meet St.Helens rugby legend James Roby and Saints Mascot Boots. Great team work Lyme!

Healthy Eating with Healthy Wraps

This half term we have looked at the topic- How do you grow your own salad? Which taught us lots about healthy eating and plants! From this, during our DT sessions we designed and created some healthy balanced wraps. Take a look at what we made!
