In our English lesson today the children worked in pairs to read fascinating facts about orangutans.  They then took on the role of nature narrators for an orangutan documentray - just like Sir David Attenborough.

Year 2 have been learning about the units of measurement - cm and m. Today they estimated which objects in and around our classroom would measure more than a metre and less than a metre.  Then they used a metre ruler to check. 

PE in Y2

Year 2 developed their throwing and catching skills in PE this week. 

Magnificent Maths in Y2

Year 2 have been working so hard on their multiplication and division facts in maths this week.  They have completed lots of word problems and talk it, solve it challenges. 

Some of the children have been using counters to make arrays and create repeated addition and multiplication facts. 


Y2 Science research

What food do you need in a healthy diet and why? 

Year 2 are learning about what makes a balanced diet. They researched healthy foods and meal ideas on the internet to help them design a healthy meal of their own.

Another fantastic 'Article of the Month' assembly delivered by our Rights Respecting Team. This month's article is 'Article 23 -  A child with a disability has the right to live a full and decent life with dignity and, as far as possible, independence'. The ambassadors did an amazing job of educating our school and introducing this month's activities. 

Y2 Fundraising for UNICEF

As part of their PSHRE learning, Y2 have collected pennies for UNICEF. They raised £44! Well done!

Y2 Intra school sports competition

Year 2 took part in an intra school sports competition today.  They completed lots of fitness challenges with a fun pirate theme. 

Reading Ambassador Meeting

Today our reading ambassadors met to discuss their ideas for World Book Day which we will be celebrating on Friday 8th March. 

They created posters for the event and displayed them around the school. 

National Storytelling Week

This week has been National Storytelling Week.  Our reading ambassadors led storytelling sessions in Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1.  In our assembly on Thursday we spoke about the skills needed to be a good storyteller.  We looked at celebrity storytellers such as musicians, dancers, actors, singers and authors. 

We are all storytellers!

In our reading lessons this week Year 2 have read the poem of THE SPIDER AND THE FLY. In the poem the spider COMPLIMENTS the fly to lure her into his den. 

The children made compliments sheets for the fly. This links wonderfully to our quote of the month for January - Mirror, mirror on the wall, give a compliment and that's not all. 

National Compliments Day - whole school assembly

Wednesday 24th February was Natonal Compliments Day.  Today we had an assembly to celebrate the process of complimenting and self complimenting.  Some of our children shared their own compliments and we watched a video 'The Reflection in Me' about a girl who listens to what her reflection tells her about herself. 

The main message was to value ourselves and that when we are kind to ourselves, we feel happier and brighter in general. 



Numbots - number fun in Y2

World Religion Day

Today, the children have participated in an assembly all about World Religion Day.

They have listened to some Learning Clips about different religions across the world.

Then, we talked about the similarities in the religions - with love and care being a central theme to all religions. 

Y2 Party

Year 2 had a fun filled day today at our end of term party. 

The Christmas Story ... Knock Knock

Today, Reverend Chris came to re-tell The Christmas Story to the children.

He re-told the story in the form of 'Knock Knock' - and he acted out all the characters in the story.  All the children found it entertaining and it certainly was a different way to re-tell the Christmas Story.

His assembly was finished with a prayer of reflection. 

Y2 Design Technology

Year 2 have designed and made their own beautiful hanging decorations.  Take a look at their amazing finished products.  They had to sew two pieces of felt together using a running stitch which was quite tricky.  Then they decorated and evaluated their designs. 

A Christmas Journey

Year 2 visited All Saints Chuch this morning and went on a wonderful Christmas journey.  The children listened to stories, wore costumes, watched a puppet show and took part in a craft activity. 

Inter Faith Week Assembly

Today, Years 1 to 6 have participated in Inter Faith Week Assembly.

Inter Faith Week occurs every November (for 8 days following Rememberance Sunday).  The children have thought and reflected on:-

* Friendships amongst different faiths - what this means and how they could be a better friend.

* Social and Community Action Projects - the children watched a video about the creation of the Watford Peace Garden.

In conjuction with the Rights Respecting Team and Miss Evans, the children have been asked to think about:-

What could we do as a school to make to make our community a better place for people of all faiths and religions?

The children have been asked to send their ideas to Miss Evans and the RRS Team before Monday 11th December, 2023.

Y2 Gymnastics

PATHS at Lyme

At Lyme we follow the PATHS Programme (Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies).  This programme helps our children to develop self-control, emotional awareness, peer relations and problem-solving skills.
