Yoga and Positive Minds

Over this half term Year 2 have been very lucky to have Mrs Powell- (Lucy's Mum) to come in give us a taste of yoga. We have all loved taking part in these sessions aand they have linked to our learning of PATHS. Take a look at some of our yoga learning. 

The Maiden Voyage to the Maritime Museum

As part of our learning about our new topic- 'Why is the unsinkable ship at the bottom or the sea?' We went on a trip to the Maritime Museum to find out more about the mysterious Titanic. This helped us in our learning and really got us thinking about lots more questions we want to answer throughout the topic.

Santa and the Cheeky Elf!

Year 2 has been rocked by 2 special arrivals! 

We were shocked to find that Ernie the Elf had made his way into school by hiding in someone's lunch box! What a cheeky elf he is!

On our party day we were practising some Christmas songs that led to the arrival of SANTA HIMSELF! He brought us some special gifts and even had time for a boogie before heading back to Rudolph who was ready for his next journey!

Our Islamic Learning

Throughout our learning of Islam this term, we learned about the 5 pillars of Islam and the beliefs Muslims have. We also learned about the Mosques and what artefacts are found inside. Each of the children then designed a prayer mat using the religious symbols and imagery out of felt. Take a look at the final outcomes.

The Landlord's Cat

This year we worked on our Christmas Play called the Landlord's Cat! The children worked so hard to learn their lines and the songs and really showed how amazing they are in front of an audience! Take a look at some of the snaps we took after the dress rehearsal! 

Finding Materials, Properties and Origins

During our topic work in Science, we have been looking at where materials come from and how we describe them. We have really enjoyed this topic and were very interested to find out we brush our teeth with chalk and that rubber comes from trees! 

As part of our learning we also experimented with slime and carried out some material hunts as part of our home learning. We also made capes using different materials. Take a look at our learning. 

Old toy sale for Pudsey.

After learning about the BBC Children in need appeal, children in Year 1 and 2 decided to set up a last minute 'unloved toy shop' in aid of the charity. Thank you to all the children and families who all pulled together and donated toys and books for the shop. Key stage 1 raised a fantastic £50.00, which will be donated to this years appeal alongside the schools own clothes day donations. All unsold donations will be donated this weekend to Willowbrook Hospice.

Chester Zoo June 2018

To start our topic- How would a zookeeper make a dinosaur happy?, We went on a trip to Chester Zoo!

 We were all very excited and learned lots of fantastic facts about each animal we saw. Luckily, we got to see the baby rhino too as well as having lots of fun! 

Out and About Lyme and Wood Pits Country Park.

On Thursday 26th April, we went for a walk around the local park with Scott the Ranger. We learned lots about the local farms, the coal mines and what once was there. Take a look at some of our pictures! Recounts to follow!

Measuring Up!

This week in Maths we have been looking at measuring in CM and M.

We started this lesson by estimating how big each part of our body was before actually measuring them to find out if we were correct.

Daniela was an amazing estimator as she some of her estimates matched the measures! Well done!

Healthy Eating Wrapped up!

To finish off our healthy eating topic we designed and created some healthy wraps. We made sure that we had a bit of each food group to make sure it was a balanced meal.

Year 2 Spring 2 Home Projects

Over the half term the children were given the challenge of completing their home school projects. They could either:

1) create a minature garden

2) Create artwork in the style of  Andy Goldsworthy

3) create a food diary/ poster about healthy eating.

Y6 keep Y2 in suspense!

Mrs Fittock and the Y6s very kindly came to visit Y2 and tell them some of their very scary suspense stories! Some were funny, some were terrifing but all of them were fantastic! 

Song Fest

We took part in SONGFEST to celebrate 150 years of St Helen's history. Take a look at some of the pictures and videos of us singing. We also made a very impressive barge and won the rely race! Well done Jacob, Thomas and Olivia!

Chef Academy- Brulé Busters!

To kick start our new topic 'Why is Australia called the Land Down Under?' we made some fairy bread. We found it very yummy and even wanted to make more!

Little Angel gets her Wings- Christmas 2017

We at Lyme are so proud of our amazing KS1 nativity-

Little Angel gets her wings! 

The children really showed how fantastic their singing and acting can really be. Here are some of the photos we have taken. We also have individual photos of each child too. If you would like a copy, speak to Mr Thompson and we can print one for you.

The Nativity Advent Calendar

Christmas Cornflake Cakes

This morning, we started making some festive treats. This will help us with writing a set of instructions. We got very sticky as the marshmellows stuck the cornflakes (and our fingers!) together!

The Mysterious Material Hunt

Through our new topic- What is our school made of? We have started looking more at the objects around us and what they are made of. We also started looking at the properties they have. In little groups, we went around the school and used the IPADs to take photos of our findings. We also started looking at the materials origin and we were shocked to find out toothpaste is made from chalk! YUCK!

Our Global Mission

We decided as a Class to focus on Zero Hunger. We thought about how we can work towards this goal as a class. We decided that we will not waste our food and will make sure that we will help the homeless by giving tinned food to food banks. We now have our Global Glasses on to show how we now see the world- what do you think? 

Autumn 1- The Great Fire Of London Project

As a start to our Learning Challenge we have enjoyed an afternoon of seaside entertainment.

First of all we enjoyed our very own knickerbocker glory ice-creams, this was followed by a sing song - OH I DO LIKE TO BE BESIDE THE SEASIDE ...

We were very lucky as we then got to watch our very own Punch and Judy show - It was such fun and everyone laughed - It made us all smile.   Also, we got to experience how they put on a Punch and Judy show and we even got to try some of the puppets.
