This week has been Children's Mental Health Week. We took part in a virtual assembly PLace2Be virtual assembly and thought about who in our lives are in our support bubble - we drew them in balloons.
Today has been Own Clothes Day - the money raising will go to buying new playground equipment. This was an idea from the Student Council who think this will support children's mental health.

This Tuesday, the 8th of February, was Safer Internet Day. Our Y5 Rights-Respecting Schools and Online Safety Ambassadors delivered two assemblies- one to KS1 and one to KS2.
KS1 listened to a story all about Digiduck who needed advice on how to stay safe online. The children gave him advice:
- We should NEVER share passwords with anyone (unless they are a trusted adult).
- We should talk to a trusted adult before we click on things online - Digiduck had to pay for lots of things that he thought we free.
- We should ALWAYS be kind online.
- We should ALWAYS tell a trusted adult if something makes us feel uncomfortable.
KS2 talked about the devices they use and the kinds of games and apps they play on. The main theme of their assembly was being respecful online.
We agreed that we should treat people online the same as we are expected to treat them offline - with respect. We should not feel pressured into doing things that we know are not right or that make us feel uncomfortable and if we are unsure we should ALWAYS talk to a trusted adult.

Year 5 Football Tournament
Today, year 5 and two pupils from year 4 participated in a football tournament. The children were respectful, showed good sportsmanship, manners and displayed plenty of footballing talent. After only losing one match in the group stages, we progressed to the semi-finals. We won the semi-final match after a fantastic goal from Nathan. Unfortunately, the final didn't go the same way and the children finished in second place! However, the children should be so proud of themselves after a fantastic effort all afternoon.
Coming second out of sixteen other schools is something to be extremely proud of!

This week we had a special assembly to celebrate reading. Each class has decorated their door to showcase their class novel and author for this half term. We have now set up a Reading Council and two ambassadors have been chosen as representatives for each class. On Thursday we had our first meeting and came up with lots of exciting reading events that we would like to do over the coming months.
Evie and Rosie in Key Stage 1 were excited to take home our TRENDING BOOK today - 'The Dragon with the Blazing Bottom' by Tom Fletcher.
We can't wait to get dressed up for World Book Day that we will be celebrating on Friday 4th March.

The Eco Action Team have been very busy over the past few weeks. Along with Mr Brooks, they have built some planters using old pallets and filled them wirth compost and bulbs ready for the Spring. The crocus bulbs were given to school by the Rotary Club as part of their campaign to eradicate polio across the world.
The original planters were very overgrown and were in need to of a tidy up - they have weeded them ready for the Spring.
They have also carried out a litter pick on the field - especially after all the windy weather we have had recently.

Year 1 enjoyed their Sports Day today! They took part in lots of different activities - the relay, egg and spoon and sack races; nerf throwing; long jumping and bean bag target games. There was lots of team spirit - cheering each other on and helping their team mates get into their sacks! Well done Year 1!

Year 1 have enjoyed a fun-filled week, learning a variety of different art skills and techniques.
We used the work of Beatriz Milhazes as a stimulus, using circle shapes to create an abstract composition in pairs.
Then we explored different kinds of lines - wavy, vertical, horizontal and cross hatch. Using the work of Bridget Riley, we created our own line composition on black card using chalks - piecing them together as a class composition.
In our next lesson we used our line drawing skills to create a collaborative piece of art with an underwater theme, inspired by the work of David Hockney and Vija Celmins. We experimented with a variety of materials - chalks, oil pastel, cryaons, coloured pencils and felt tip pens.
At the end of the week, we did a colour mixing investigation - making primary and secondary colours using play dough and paint. Using our knowledge of colour, we then created some art work based on a study of the artist Jasper Johns.
We have some very talented artists in our Year 1 class and have been impressed at how well they have all worked together to make their compositions!

Rotary Club Crocus competition

At the end of last year, our Eco Team planted some crocus bulbs given to us by the Rotary Club as part of Polio Eradication Day. With the help of Mr and Mrs Brooks, they planted them to spell out Lyme. Over the past couple of weeks, we have started to see signs of life and now have a beautiful crocus display!

Throughout the school, children had lots of fun doing all things maths on World Maths Day. They made board games, completed maths treasure hunts and problem solving challnges as well as creating some fabulous maths art using 2D shape.

Tuesday 9th February was Safer Internet Day. This year's theme was ' An internet we trust: exploring reliability in the online world'. We took part in lots of different activities both in school and at home, such as watching the BBC live lesson; taking part in an assembly and creating posters and presentations about how to stay safe online.
The main messages are:
*Never share your personal details (address, date of birth, email address, passwords) online.
*Only use websites which you know - if you are unsure, speak to an adult.
*Don't click on pop-ups or adverts or enter competitions without checking with a trusted adult.
*If you receive a chain message - delete it and don't share it.
*Don't arrange to meet someone you don't know in real-life.
*If something worries you, upsets you or just doesn't seem right - ALWAYS tell a trusted adult at home or in school.

Our trees have arrived from The Tree Council and have been planted! We have 4 apple, 2 pear, 2 cherry and 2 plum trees aswell as a variety of different bushes. Our Eco Team are looking forward to looking after them and watching them grow!
Children's Mental Health Week - February 2021

February 1st-7th was Children's Mental Health Week - with this year's theme being 'Express Yourself'. We had three different assemblies - Mrs Roberts ‘Coping with the Effects of Lockdown’, Pippa our PATHS lead- ‘Calming Strategies’ and Mrs Lammond on the theme of - ‘Express Yourself.
In class and at home, our children took part in a variety of different activities to support thinking about their mental health, including Yoga with Coach Aaron.

This half term has been a productive one so far for the Eco Team! We have delivered an assembly about National Tree Week and are patiently awaiting the delivery of our fruit trees and hedgerows! Following on from that we shared an assembly about The Eco Award and gave our class mates, who are in school and those who are working at home, the opportunity to complete a questionnaire about which of the 'eco areas' we feel are the most important to us that we could work towards. We held our first virtual meeting and started to think about our project ideas as we plan our journey towards the renewal of 'The Green Flag'.

This term, each class have talked about the UNCRC - the rights of the child - then discussed which are the most important to them and created their class charter. Our Rights-Respecting Ambassadors will be responsible for making sure that they are used in class.
Send My Friend To School campaign 2020

As a Rights-Respecting School we have taken part in this year's 'Send My Friend to School' Campaign again with the focus being sending ALL children to school. We have done lots of work in school about children's rights and how some children (in other countries, but also in the UK) are not able to attend school currently due to a variety of reasons - one being the current pandemic.
We have emailed our local MP, Mr. Conor McGinn, to invite him to attend a virtual assembly in January.

A HUGE thank you to our Eco Team who have met after school for the past three weeks to dig over the new planters, get rid of the weeds, clear leaves and pick up litter.
We are looking forward to the Spring when the crocus bulbs we have planted for The Rotary Club competition begin to bloom along with the daffodils, tulips and wild flowers we have planted.
Next week is National Tree Week - we are awaiting delivery of some fruit trees and hedgerows from The Tree Council. Our Eco Team will be leading an assembly in their classes to tell everyone all about it.
Mrs. Cribb will also talking about climate change in our other assemblies next week - about the importance of unity and working together to reduce our carbon foot print.

This week in school we've been very busy as you can see! From finishing off the fantastic bottle top rainbows started before; adding more tadpoles to our pond; setting up some chain reactions using different objects; making some short stop motion videos as well as some very important reading and online learning!

We are having a great time in school this week.
We have been keeping fit - by practising some dance routines, going on the trim trails, taking part in an assault course challenge as well as going on the scooters and bikes.
As it's nearly Easter - we have made Easter Nest cakes - they were yummy! We have also created some Stained Glass Window Decorations. We have made Easter Cards and motivational messages too ...
We have enjoyed the Lego Challenges too - we have created a theme park ride and a rocket so far.
All of this as well as some online learning and Maths challenges!
In After School Club - we have made pizza and enjoyed waffles with chocolate spread. We have also created some mosaic art and played games (The 5 second rule game was fun - but sometimes a little tricky!).

The children who have been in school this week have been fabulous!
Aswell as going on Century Tech, Timetable Rockstars and Spelling Frame we have done lots of dancing, playing, arts and crafts and even made a Bug Hotel.
