World Book Day in FS

Date: 5th Mar 2021 @ 10:39am

We read the book Dreamer by Brian Moses.  We then thought about different ways that we could look after our planet.   We decided that we shouldn’t throw litter, we shouldn’t waste water or electricity. We are going to try hard to remember to put our rubbish in the bin, to recycle,  to turn off the tap when we are brushing our teeth and to turn off lights.

We then turned junk into other useful things. We made pencil pot holders from toilet roll tubes and used different plastic containers to make some plant pots.   We also made some dreamcatchers.

Some of our friends at home looked at their favourite books, created new characters  and made their own book.

World Book Day 2021

Date: 4th Mar 2021 @ 3:50pm

Today was World Book Day and our focused book was 'Dreamer'. The children in school and at home read the book and then we looked at endangered animals around the world. We researched why they were endangered and how many were left in the world. All the children really enjoyed learning about this and were shocked at how many animals are at the risk of becoming extinct. We then created fact files of some of the animals and created our own Dreamer story. Here are some pictures of some of the work done in school. Some of the children at home are bringing in their work to display on Monday. We also had a lovely chat with some of the children at home and played 'Who am I?'.

World Book Day in Year 1

Date: 4th Mar 2021 @ 3:32pm

In Year 1, we have celebrated World Book Day by coming to school in our PJ's - it has been a fun day!

We have shared the story of "Dreamer" and talked about our dreams for a better world - take a look at some of our dreams / thoughts.

Then, we have created bookmarks - using the scenes from the story as our inspiration.

We have also talked about how we can care for our world so that we put a smile on the face of the Earth - just like the little boy in our story.

World Book Day in Year 2!

Date: 4th Mar 2021 @ 2:20pm

Today, we celebrated World Book Day in lots of exciting ways.  We enjoyed listening to our shared story 'DREAMER' and talked about our dreams for a better world, we made dream catchers and created new pages of our own for the book.  We enjoyed playing a game of 'Who am I?' on TEAMS to find out more about some endangered animals. Finally, we ended our day by reading our favourite stories.

Goodbye to Baby Zorg

Date: 12th Feb 2021 @ 2:30pm

This half term Y1 have been looking after 'Baby Zorg' - who crashed into our school building a few weeks ago.

We have been learning all about our local area and the country we live in - so we could try and help 'Baby Zorg' send a message to his Mum and Dad.

This morning, he sent us a note to tell us 'I miss home' - so today we have made some posters and messages in the hope that his Mum and Dad can come and find him - as he is waiting by the office with Mrs Marshall.

Take a look at some of our messages and posters.

CHINESE NEW YEAR TANGRAM PUZZLES

Tamgram is an ancient Chinese shape puzzle. This fits in well with out learning in maths because this week we have been looking at polygons.

Wonderful and creative shapes and pictures can be made with these polygons by moving them around.

Can you guess from our photographs what we have made?

Making fruit kebabs/salads

Date: 11th Feb 2021 @ 3:58pm

We have had a lovely afternoon in Y1, making fruit kebabs and salads using the designs we created last week. We used our cutting skills: bridge hold, fork hold and claw grip. The children who are working at home have also made some delicious looking kebabs too!

Our next job is to write our evaluations - what we liked and what we could improve...then we can send photos of our finished products to Tescos!!

*Only use websites which you know - if you are unsure, speak to an adult.

*Don't click on pop-ups or adverts or enter competitions without checking with a trusted adult.

*If you receive a chain message - delete it and don't share it.

*Don't arrange to meet someone you don't know in real-life.

*If something worries you, upsets you or just doesn't seem right - ALWAYS tell a trusted adult at home or in school.

This half term has been a productive one so far for the Eco Team!  We have delivered an assembly about National Tree Week and are patiently awaiting the delivery of our fruit trees and hedgerows! Following on from that we shared an assembly about The Eco Award and gave our class mates, who are in school and those who are working at home, the opportunity to complete a questionnaire about which of the 'eco areas' we feel are the most important to us that we could work towards. We held our first virtual meeting and started to think about our project ideas as we plan our journey towards the renewal of 'The Green Flag'.

Chocolate Rocks

Date: 31st Jan 2021 @ 5:47pm

The Year 3 children have been learning about rocks and the rock cycle. To help show how rocks are formed and how the rock cycle works, some children at home and those in school made chocolate rocks. It was a lot of fun and very tasty.

Here is how we demonstrated the rock cycle :

Step 1 - Create some magma by melting all of the chocolate. Allow it to flow, like lava which has erupted from a volcano. Allow your lava flow to cool so that you have a solid igneous choc rock!

Step 2 - Expose your chocolate rock to the harsh conditions of the Earth’s surface, or in this case, a cheese grater! Erode your rock and turn it into chocolate ‘sediment’. Your sedimentary rock will be made up of three different sedimentary layers: chocolate sediment, cocoa pop sediment and marshmallow sediment.

Step 3 - This step requires a little more imagination than the previous steps. You cannot add enough sedimentary layers to generate enough heat and pressure to alter our ‘sedimentary rock’. We need an oven to do this for us. Fold the mixture and this misshapen feature looks quite a lot like those found in metamorphic rocks.

Step 4 - Enjoy your chocolate rocks.

Here are some pictures of some of the children at home and in school.
