Year 4 had a fabulous time at the Southport Eco Centre exploring their learning of rainforests around the world. There were interactive quizzes, a computer challenge, a giant game of 'Snakes and Lianas' and an immersive suite which brought the rainforest to life. We were so impressed with their knowledge and they were fantastic ambassadors for our school.

The Nursery children have been talking about seeds and what they need to help them to grow. We enjoyed the story, 'That's My Flower' and watched a short video about how to plant bulbs/seeds. Then, we saw a time-lapse video of the growth of a sunflower seed, before planting our own sunflower seeds in pots (remembering to add a lolly stick to measure the changes) We even found a very wriggly worm, which tickled our hands! Some children also weeded the planting tyre and topped it up with rich, new soil before planting the spare sunflower seeds. We hope we all have green fingers!

This week we had a very exciting visit from a 66-year-old, double decker bus! The Nursery children had a wonderful time singing 'The Wheels on the bus' song, whilst one child sat in the driving seat and beeped the horn in time. Then, we all climbed the very steep steps to sit on the top deck and this was quite a challenge for little legs! We would like to say a HUGE thank you to Grayson's parents and the staff at St Helens Transport Museum for arranging this experience for us.
Chinese New Year Nursery Class
Date: 25th Feb 2026 @ 3:25pm
Nursery class had fun celebrating Chinese New Year. We watched a short video before looking at lots of interesting Chinese artefacts. Then, the children tucked into a bowl of yummy noodles for snack and oranges. They were able to further explore some noodles in the tough tray outside, using real chopsticks! Inside, the children threaded red and yellow beads onto a dragon's tongue. Red and yellow are thought to be lucky colours. We then shared a book all about Chinese New Year and watched an amazing dragon dance. Some children even drew their own dragon pictures independently. We made our own Chinese lanterns and practised our cutting skills using scissors. It was challenging to cut along straight lines! Finally, we learned how to say Kung Hei Fat Choi and took home a special fortune cookie each.

People Who Help Us- Builder visitor

This week, we had a very special visitor to EYFS. Phill the builder came to show us some of his different tools, safety gear and to talk to us about his job. He allowed the children to hold some of the items he brought and he explained how his job is either to build or to fix. It was very interesting, informative and fun, and at the end of the session we asked him our own questions. Thank you Phill for coming to visit us!

Today, Nursery had a wonderful Winter walk. We noticed the trees were bare now, compared to our Autumn walk, and the berries had all been eaten by the birds. We even heard some birds singing. The children enjoyed walking through the woodlands and eventually spotted a fir tree along the way. We compared deciduous and evergreen trees, and spotted new buds and even some catkins hanging on the bracnches. The children felt the grass and realised that the frost had now melted into water, due to the warmth from the wintery sun. We discussed the leaves on the ground and talked about how they squash down to make rich soil to feed the trees. To help with this process we stomped our feet as we walked through the wet, soggy leaves. Finally, we ran back across the field towards the gate. What a fun time we all had!

In maths, we explored the concept of ‘wholes’ and ‘parts’. The children investigated using their own bodies and familiar toys to see how a whole object can be made of smaller parts. We also made fruit kebabs, which was a great hands-on way to understand that the whole kebab is made up pf different parts. It was both a tasty and engaging learning experience!
