Lunch Time Art Club

Y3 have created some silhouette art with a water coloured background and black acrylic. They have really enjoyed these sessions. 

Mayor and Mayoress' visit

We were delighted to have a visit from the Mayor, Lynn Clarke, and Mayoress, Hayley Clarke, this week. They were accompanied by Mayor's Cadet, Emily, who is a former Lyme pupil and the daughter of our Chair of Governors, Caroline Unsworth. They presented this week's achievement certificates and Headteacher's awards during our celebration assembly and talked to the children about how they serve the community in their roles. After assembly, 
our Rights-Respecting Schools Ambassadors talked about our recent reaccreditation of the UNICEF gold award and how they are teaching our community about children's rights. Members of The Singing Stars showed off our art display, including playground mural, and talked about our recent Artsmark Award. Madam Mayor was keen to hear about our PATHs curriculum and how we are hoping to be awarded model school status this year - our B's Buddies spoke about their role in using PATHs during break and lunchtimes to support other children. Some of our Y5 pupil gave our visitors a tour around school giving children from each class the chance to ask them some questions.
Madam Mayor commented that: 'The children were an absolute credit to the school and had lots of interesting questions for us.'

Quiz Kids

Well done to our fantastic Y5 team who participated against other local schools in this year's Quiz Kids competition at Hope Academy. They tried hard, worked well as a team and their behaviour was exemplary: wonderful ambassadors for our school. 

Bikeability

Y5 have enjoyed taking part in Bikeability sessions this week. They have developed confidence when riding and learned new safety skills - especially when riding on the road. Some useful advice:

"Instead of putting your foot on the ground, put your feet on the pedals to start off." (Spencer)

"We learned about how to ride on the roads and how important it is to look when we are crossing." (Sukaina)

"Always remember to look at the road closest to you when crossing." (Rebecca)

Why should we eat well and look after our teeth?

Today, Y3 have had a visit from our School Nurse (Carol) and the Health Nurse (Helen).

They visited us to help us with our Learning Question : Why should we eat well and look after our teeth?

We learnt all about brushing your teeth correctly - and we got to use the model teeth and toothbrushes.

We talked about sugar and how it gives us energy - but then we found out you should not have more than 6 sugar cubes per day.  Also, some drinks have too much sugar and caffeine in them.  We investigated the sugar content in some popular drinks. 

Sunflowers in Nursery

Y2 NATURE NARRATORS

In our English lesson today the children worked in pairs to read fascinating facts about orangutans.  They then took on the role of nature narrators for an orangutan documentray - just like Sir David Attenborough. 

Y2 MEASURING in MATHS

Year 2 have been learning about the units of measurement - cm and m. Today they estimated which objects in and around our classroom would measure more than a metre and less than a metre.  Then they used a metre ruler to check. 

Y3 Roman Forts

As part of our DT Learning - Y3 have designed and made their own Roman Forts.

We had to use certain design features - such as towers / turrets / battlements and a drawbridge.

The children also made 3D shapes - using nets to create some of their towers / turrets.

 

GARDENING CLUB

Thank you to the Eco Team and all the children who came to Gardening Club over the Easter holidays. They were very busy bees: creating plant pots and bird houses; preparing the planters; cleaning up the pond area or a nauture garden; planting some fruits and vegetables; creating 3 new bug hotels and planting lots of wild flowers to help maintain and attract our local wildlife. We were all exhausted after two days of very hard work but are looking forward to seeing our results over the next months. 

EASTER CRAFTS

A huge thanks to all the parents and children who attended the Easter Craft Event organised and run by our Student Council. The children had a fabulous and very creative time and we managed to raise some more money towards our much needed sound system. It definitely got us all ready for our Easter break - Enjoy!

Foundation Stage Easter Celebrations

The children have taken part in a range of activities to celebrate Easter. We have taken part in various craft activities, an Easter egg hunt, an Easter Bonnet Parade and had a visit from the Easter Bunnies.

Easter Assembly

Today, Reverend Chris came to deliver his Easter Assembly.

He told us the story of a leper and about how Jesus came back on Easter Sunday to teach people how to be better versions of themselves.

It was very thought provoking and made the children think about they treat others.

 

 

Reception Book Club

Over the past 6 weeks we have been enjoying reading traditional tales at our book club.  The children have joined in with repeated phrases, used story language and worked on sequencing events.  They also created pieces of art work and enjoyed a picnic treat with their teddies and favourite books in our library.

Y3 Rights Respecting - Article 23

Today, we have been learning about Article 23 ... You have the right to special education and care if you have a disability.

We have talked about having a disability, what being neurodiverse means and listened to the story: Mrs Gorski - I Think I Have The Wiggle Fidgets.

Also, we have learned some sign language and been able to use 'finger spelling' to spell our own names.

PE in Y2

Magnificent Maths in Y2

Year 2 have been working so hard on their multiplication and division facts in maths this week.  They have completed lots of word problems and talk it, solve it challenges. 

Some of the children have been using counters to make arrays and create repeated addition and multiplication facts. 

 

Y2 Science research

What food do you need in a healthy diet and why? 

Year 2 are learning about what makes a balanced diet. They researched healthy foods and meal ideas on the internet to help them design a healthy meal of their own. 

Y3 - The Romans - Class Assembly

All the children spoke their lines beautifully - it was a lovely performance - as they told their parents all about life in Roman times. 

ARTICLE OF THE MONTH

Another fantastic 'Article of the Month' assembly delivered by our Rights Respecting Team. This month's article is 'Article 23 -  A child with a disability has the right to live a full and decent life with dignity and, as far as possible, independence'. The ambassadors did an amazing job of educating our school and introducing this month's activities. 

CYBER CRIME SQUAD

Year 6 recieved a visit from the Cyber Crime Team to discuss with them how to keep themsleves safe online. There have been some issues in Year 6 regardnig group chats on WhatsApp and the Crime Squad informed us that the age requirement for WhatsApp is 16. We strongly advise parents to closely monitor their children's messages. The children responded well to the session by the Cyber Crime Team and we hope this will supoort them in staying safe and happy online. 

Y6 WORLD BOOK DAY

Phoebe won the prize for Tabby Cat from The Worst Witch.

PCSOs Visit FS

The PCSOs -  0309 Johnson and 0088 Quillam paid Foundation Stage a visit on Wednesday morning. They told us all about their job and let the children try on some of their uniforms.  They also brought a police van for the children to look at. It was very exciting.
