30th anniversary of children's rights
Date: 7th Nov 2019 @ 9:12am
Our Rights-Respecting Schools Ambassadors have been very busy planning activities to celebrate World Children's Day on Wednesday 20th November. This year it will be an extra special celebration as it marks 30 years since the United Convention on the Rights of the Child were agreed and signed.
Our ideas so far:
*our ambassadors will be leading an assembly on the UNCRC
*they will be planning and leading activities to promote children's rights
*our teachers will be launching the 'Send My Friend to School' campaign
*we will be creating a short film of how we are continuing to learn about our rights and will share this with the community on our website and with other schools

Today Y1 have experienced life as a Victorian school child.
They have had their nails and hands inspected to check they were clean enough for school. Unfortunately, it was clear to see some children had spent the morning cleaning out the scullery, up a chimney or down the mine! After promising they would be cleaner tomorrow Ma’am allowed them into class.
Did you know Victorian children paid a penny to come to school?
They have also taken part in Victorian lessons (the 3Rs and Drill). Some children had to spend time in the Dunce’s corner. They also joined in with devotional chanting – just like Victorian school children. The children now know that:-
Children should be seen and not heard.
Cleanliness is next to Godliness.
Some of the children said they would like school to be more like a Victorian school because they worked hard.

Today in Foundation Stage we had our very own bonfire! We built it outside and talked about how to be safe around a real flame! We knew to not touch it or even get too close and talked about what we should wear to keep us safe! We toasted some marshmallows and had a great time.
Date: 25th Oct 2019 @ 4:29pm
To end our topic on natural disasters, today we exploded our own volcanoes. The children were amazed and loved the effects.
A Message for Baby Zorg's Mum and Dad
Date: 24th Oct 2019 @ 12:10pm
Year 1 have been taking care of Baby Zorg for the last few weeks - ever since he crash landed his spaceship on our school field.
Today he told us that he was missing his Mum and Dad. Here are some picture messages for his Mum and Dad. We hope that his Mum and Dad will be able to come and find him - here on Planet Earth so that he can go back home with his Mum and Dad.
Date: 23rd Oct 2019 @ 5:22pm
We had a lot of fun scooping the insides of the pumpkins out and talking about how it felt in our hands! We then looked at some designs and drew a face for the teachers to cut out. Mr Widdowson's attempt was not very good!
We also made some spooky food with Mrs Bloxham. What made it spooky? The Taste!

Thank you to our Y4 students who have led an assembly for KS2 about Diwali. They have been studying the Hindu religion this half term to find an answer to 'What might a Hindu learn from celebrating Diwali?'
Date: 23rd Oct 2019 @ 3:53pm
Today Y1 have been undertaking some geography fieldwork.
They have explored our local area to find the answers to the following questions:-
How many people visit the local shop (Sam's shop)?
When is the busiest time in the local shop (Sam's shop)?
We worked in a small group and went for a walk along Lyme Street - where we found out that every street has a name sign. Then, we did a survey outside the local shop to find the answers to our questions.
We found out:-
31 people visited the shop.
The busiest time was at 2.00 pm and the quietest time was at 1.15pm.
We had lots of fun! Miss Burns, Miss Costello and Miss Parr were very proud of us as we are great ambassadors for our school. Well done Year 1.
Date: 22nd Oct 2019 @ 5:16pm
A BIG thank you to Helen and Darren from Newton Fire Station who delivered an assembly to Years 1 - 6 about how they can stay safe during firework season.
Design Technology - Moving Pictures
Date: 22nd Oct 2019 @ 9:07am
Year 1 have worked very hard making a moving picture of an alien to help Zorg the alien settle in on Planet Earth.
After looking at some children's books containing levers and sliders we had a go at making our own - the children were fabulous! Then we designed our own, choosing the materials we wanted to make our finished product attractive and fit for purpose and selecting whether we wanted to use a lever or a slider.
Next week we will be ordering the stages of our designing, making and evaluating process and writing our own evaluations.
LEARNING CHALLENGE CURRICULUM EXHIBITION AUTUMN TERM
Date: 22nd Oct 2019 @ 8:53am
Thank you to all the children and families who created something wonderful at home as part of their Learning Challenge Curriculum topics!
Our Year 1 children made some fabulous junk model aliens as part of their 'What would an alien think of life on Planet Earth?' geography topic.
There we some very realistic Tudor houses made by Year 2 to showcase their learning about the Great Fire of London.
Year 3 demonstrated a good understanding of natural disasters - with examples of earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunamis made whilst Year 5 used IT skills and their creative skills to share their knowledge and understanding of space.
Our Year 4 and 6 children have enjoyed making Roman and Viking replica models as part of their history learning.
Mental Health Superhero Competition!

We've been making some funny faces using the 2D shapes we've been learning about. We wonder if you can make any at home?
Date: 11th Oct 2019 @ 8:06am
Year 5 had lots of fun exploring space and learning about the life of an astronaut on their trip to Jodrell Bank this week. We learnt all about our British astronaut Tim Peake and the training he had to undertake for his mission on the International Space Station. We also had a competition to see who could perform the best moon landing using a raw egg! The children worked brilliantly in their groups and created some fanatastic landing vessels using string, paper, balloons and cotton wool. Well done Year 5!
Date: 3rd Oct 2019 @ 4:32pm
Year 5 worked on enterprise project ideas with Natalie from St Helens Chamber this morning - this involved learning facts and figures about the town we live in, how companies brand products to sell, discussing fundraising activties and telling us all about the charity we will be helping to raise money for: Hope House, a place for homeless people to eat, shower and clean their clothes.
We have had some fantastic, creative ideas! Once we have agreed on our fundraising projects we will share them!
Date: 3rd Oct 2019 @ 10:32am
Year 2 worked hard on developing their geographical skills during European Day of Languages. The children looked at a map of Europe; talked about the different languages and cultures and then located each country on a map.
Date: 1st Oct 2019 @ 8:26am
This week our Science Experiment was to fill a bag with water and stick some sharp pencils through it! The children thought it would "explode" or "pop" but it actually did nothing! (until we took the pencils out!)
One of the bags did already have a little hole so it leaked through there so we are going to retry this tomorrow with a leakproof bag!
Date: 30th Sep 2019 @ 4:31pm
The children were very lucky to have a workshop delivered by Gary the Viking on Friday.
It was a fantastic day. The children took part in a range of activities.
Date: 27th Sep 2019 @ 11:13am
European Day of Languages
We came to school dressed in red, white and blue because we are learning to speak French this year.
To launch our new MFL we enjoyed lots of different activities. Our favourite was tasting different French foods such as: baguettes, crepes, croissants, brioches and different French cheeses. Yum! Yum!
Date: 27th Sep 2019 @ 10:35am
CHANGE YOUR MINDSET
To start our new year in Year 6 we have been thinking about having a growth mindset.
We did different activities to challenge our mindsets.
We now understand the difference between having a fixed and a growth mindset.
Nursery Singing for French Day!!
Date: 26th Sep 2019 @ 4:23pm
Baby Zorg knows he is in England
Date: 26th Sep 2019 @ 2:31pm
This week we have been learning a little more about The United Kingdom so we can send a message to Baby Zorg's mum and dad.
We have been able to use a map and a globe to identify the four countries of The United Kingdom - England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. We have also been able to name their capital cities - London, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast.
Then we have used directional language such as near, far, next to, up, down, left and right to describe the position of the countries. Some of us used a big map to help us ... it was fun!
Date: 26th Sep 2019 @ 2:23pm
This week in Year 1 we have been working together to listen to the story of 'Aliens Love Underpants'.
After we had listened to the story we had to work together to sequence the events in the story - so that we knew the beginning, middle and end of the story.
Date: 25th Sep 2019 @ 7:32am
The children have shown a real interest in cooking and baking, so Mrs Bloxham helped them make some apple crumble (with custard!) They really enjoyed themselves and it was really tasty too!!
