Date: 27th Jun 2021 @ 10:39am

This week has been Arts Week and Health and Well-being Week.   For Arts Week we looked at two artists who used circles in their work-Kandinsky and Hundertwasser.  We were then inspired to create our own art using different mediums.

For Health and Well-being  Week the children have taken part in a range of activities including yoga, mindful colouring, meditation, dancing and learning about Our LIves.  We looked at the routines and patterns of a typical day, why hygiene is important and how all families are different.

We are so glad to be all back together again. We have had lots of fun this week and enjoyed being with our friends and teachers.

World Book Day in FS

Date: 5th Mar 2021 @ 10:39am

We read the book Dreamer by Brian Moses.  We then thought about different ways that we could look after our planet.   We decided that we shouldn’t throw litter, we shouldn’t waste water or electricity. We are going to try hard to remember to put our rubbish in the bin, to recycle,  to turn off the tap when we are brushing our teeth and to turn off lights.

We then turned junk into other useful things. We made pencil pot holders from toilet roll tubes and used different plastic containers to make some plant pots.   We also made some dreamcatchers.

Some of our friends at home looked at their favourite books, created new characters  and made their own book.

FS Learning

Date: 31st Jan 2021 @ 6:23pm

The Foundation Stage children are working hard at home and in school.  Here is a selection of some of their work.

Why do Christians have advent calendars?

Date: 11th Dec 2020 @ 4:04pm

Today we retold the story of the first Christmas to check that we remembered it from last week! We used puppets to help us.

Then we talked about why Christians use advent calendars to count down to Christmas Day – to celebrate Jesus’ birthday.

We made our own advent calendar by drawing pictures from the nativity story and things that people do to celebrate Christmas. We used our phonics and finger spaces to write a sentence with our picture and wrote a number between 1 and 24 on the front.

At the end of the day we ordered the numbers and said that people would be getting more excited the nearer to the 24th it gets!

The Nativity Story

Date: 7th Dec 2020 @ 8:51am

Today we have talked about why Christians celebrate Christmas. We listened to the story of the first Christmas and used actions to help us. Then we acted it out using puppets.

In small groups we cut out pictures from the story, put them in order and then told Mrs. Roberts what happened at the beginning, the middle and the end.

We showed that we remembered it by retelling it to Nursery in the afternoon. Then we listened to another story – Jesus’ Christmas Party.

We know that Christians celebrate Christmas because it was when Jesus was born.

Christmas in Foundation Stage

Date: 4th Dec 2020 @ 10:51am

Christmas has arrived. We have turned our summer house into Santa’s Grotto. The children can’t wait to be Santa’s helpers on Monday. Here are some of our other Christmas activities so far.

What happens at Eid al-Fitr?

Date: 27th Nov 2020 @ 4:05pm

Today we shared our knowledge about Ramadan from last week – we had remembered a lot! We talked about the end of Ramadan being called Eid al-Fitr (the festival of the breaking of the fast). Then watched a video of a family celebrating Eid: they wear special clothes, visit the Mosque, read the Qu’ran, say prayers, have food with family and friends and share gifts.

At snack time we tried dates and fig rolls – these are foods which Muslims eat at the end of Ramadan to mark the end of fasting. We talked about how this might feel.

We all made star and moon decorations and wrote down what our good deed would be.

Why do Muslims celebrate Ramadan?

Date: 20th Nov 2020 @ 4:24pm

Today we have talked about another festival - Ramadan. We found out that Muslims do special things during this time: they fast (do not eat) in daylight hours, they pray 5 times a day and they do good deeds. We listened to a story about Rameena who opened her Ramadan calendar – the message said she should do something to help someone else. She helped her neighbour to tidy the garden, washed the dishes at the community centre and shared food with a friend.

Muslims decorate their homes at this time – we made lanterns and decorated them.

We know that at the end of Ramadan, Muslims celebrate another festival – Eid.

FS Maths-Number 8

Date: 20th Nov 2020 @ 2:29pm

We found out all about the number 8.  We counted lots of objects to 8, we made spiders with 8 legs, 8 spots and 8 eyes.  We used Numicon to explore different ways to make 8.  We found out that an 8 sided shape is called an octagon and we made our own octagons using lolly sticks.

Happy Diwali from FS!

Date: 16th Nov 2020 @ 8:37am

Today we have decorated our Diya lamps to make them sparkle for Diwali – it is called the festival of light. We will try and remember to turn our candles on tomorrow (Saturday 14th November) and think about people who will be celebrating.

We used the FANTASTICS to describe sights, sounds, feelings and what people might be saying at this time.

Diwali in FS

Date: 6th Nov 2020 @ 3:20pm

Today thought about the story of Rama and Sita and why Hindus celebrate Diwali – we had remembered it all from before the holidays!

We watched a video about a Hindu family and what they do in their house at Diwali. We found out that they wear new clothes, give presents and invite family and friends around for a special meal. Hindus also decorate their homes with lights and Rangoli patterns. They might have fireworks displays because it is called ‘the festival of light’.

Using clay, we made Diya lamps – we talked about how the clay felt and how to use our hands and fingers to mould the clay, then we used a tool to make patterns.

Then we made Rangoli patterns using chalk. We thought about the number 6: we drew 6 petals on the flower and used 6 colours to decorate it.

Rama and Sita in FS

Date: 16th Oct 2020 @ 4:31pm

Nature Walk

Date: 13th Oct 2020 @ 8:51am

In RE, our BIG question for the year is: Why are some things special?

We have been talking about Harvest Festival and how Christians thank God for food and the world. On Friday, we went on a walk around school to find natural objects. We used them to make our own art work.

World Book Day in FS

Date: 5th Mar 2020 @ 2:26pm

We looked at the book ‘Once Upon a Time..’ by Nick Sharratt.  We were able to change the story by choosing where the princess lived, what kind of pet she had and what she wished for when a witch granted her three wishes.

We also talked about what the children would wish for. Here are some of their ideas:-

a castle

a unicorn

a really fast car

a trampoline

a brand new scooter

Peppa pig

a horse
