Y3 Textiles: Cross stitch and applique

Y3 have enjoyed designing and making their own bookmarks in Design Technology this term. They have used running stitch to attached their applique design and cross stitch to enhance the appearance of their finished product.

We used the book 'Sea of Dreams' by Dennis Nolan to inspire our learning this week. The children took part in drama and dance sessions and produced different artworks. We used different techniques to create our artwork including bubble painting, collage and watercolours. We also made 'sea in a jar'.

This week in Forest School the children started by looking at the signs of summer and identifying different flowers and trees. Then Nursery children made Dream Catchers and the Reception children did some Wild Weaving.

Inspired by the picture book the SEA OF DREAMS by Dennis Nolan Year 2 have produced some amazing artwork this week. They used mixed media to create an under water scene using paints, pastels and collage materials. The children explored colour mixing to create their own colours to use in a colour field painting inspired by the artist Mark Rothko.
In music they composed and performed their own pieces of music using 1 and 2 syllable words from the book.
Begum taught the children a dance inspired by the pictures from the story and in drama they acted out scenes from the story.
In english the children created expanded noun phrases to decribe what they could see and wrote their own poems. It have been a wonderful week and the children have enjoyed expressing themselves through the arts!

This week, we have started investigating how you can strengthen materials to hold a weight.
Our first challenge was to see who could make the strongest beam bridge using only one piece of card.

The children went on a nature hunt this week in Forest School. They collected different natural materials and then made their own nature headband.

The children have had a fantastic week of sporting activities including Fit 4 KIds, Zumba, Yoga, gymnastics and finishing with Sports Day,

Year 2 have had amazing Sports Week. On Monday they met an Olympic gymnast and completed a workout for charity. They have enjoyed Zumba, the daily mile and dance classes.
The children also made up an exercise routine for younger children to do and made posters for Soccer Aid. Our week was finished off by a wonderful Sports Day!

As part of our Sports Week - the Year 3 children have been watching some of Joe Wick's (The Body Coach) videos.
We have then discussed the importance of being healthy and having a fitness routine.
Today, we worked in teams to create our own Joe Wick's style routines and shared them with the rest of our class.
It was fun - but the exercises were tricky - especially in the heat!

This was the first lesson of our summer sessions. The children were introduced to the summer season and looked for the signs of summer all around them. Then the children went on a hunt through the forest to find a feather. After this they crushed up blackberries to make their own ink and used the feather quill to draw with. They had lots of fun crushing up the berries and using their quills.

Foundation Stage Ugly Bug Ball

To celebrate the end of our work on minibeasts we had a mini Ugly Bug Ball. All the children made their own minibeast mask and made their own ladybird or spider biscuit. We finished off by dancing to different songs inspired by minibeasts.

Today, we have been visited by the school nurse to help us learn a little more about our Learning Question:-
Why should we eat well and look after our teeth?
We learned all about the differnt types of teeth, when our baby teeth start to come out and the importance of a healthy diet for our teeth.
We also got to practise how to brush our teeth correctly - using a large scale model of a set of teeth.
It was fun!
Natural Minibeast Art in Nursery

This half term the children have been finding out all about minibeasts. We are currently reading the story 'A Good Place' by Lucy Cousins. The children have been inspired to create some natural minibeast art.

There was lots of excitement when we discovered a bird had made a home in one of our bird boxes in the garden. The bird now has seven chicks in her nest.

The Year 6's celebrated today after a long week of SATs and rightly so as they have done themselves and their teachers proud. They have tried their best and worked really hard. If I could give them points for perseverance, I would. They deserve a relaxed and restful weekend - well done to them all.

For our last Forest School of the spring, the children took part in a scavenger hunt. Each time they found a flower or an insect on their card they were given a bead to thread onto their string. At the end of the hunt all the children had managed to collect enough beads to make a necklace.

Today, we celebrated the Coronation of King Charles III with a special assembly and an afternoon tea party. We made our own crowns for the celebrations.
