To start our new topic 'I am a Y6 child, can you get me out of here?' we have enjoy a fun afternoon of orienteering.

The Year 5 and 6 children were excellent ambassadors for our school when they attended the Netball tournement at De La Salle school last Friday. They played well and displayed excellent skills and sprotsmanship. Well done!

Year 5 and 6 had a fantastic (and slightly messy 
) time exploring the properties of materials; using slime, milk, bubbles and colour. They recorded what they had observed and thought carefully about the 'science' they could see happening. The children used some excellent scientific language to record their ideas.

ANIMALS TAKE OVER PART 2
Year 6 enjoyed their first day back after the holidays with a visit from Lyndsey and her friends. We enjoyed holding and hearing about a range of creatures from the rainforests.

To celebrate World Poetry Day, Mrs Roberts' Year 6 writing group have studied the poem 'Balloons' by Sylvia Plath. We have performed it; analysed the language and discussed the poet's feelings when writing the poem. Following this, we looked in detail at candle light and a daffodil - thinking about how we could personify them in the way that Sylvia Plath does a balloon. We are really proud of the poems we have created!

Y6 were transported to the rainforest last week and became television presenters.
The children’s task was to write a script for a nature documentary.

We have used salt dough to create continent maps showing topography, rainforests, major rivers and countries. We are looking forward to painting them once they are dry.

To finish off our topic in Year 6 we have enjoyed playing a version of the Mayan game Pok-a-Tok.
Pok-a-Tok was played by the Ancient Maya and is the oldest known team sport with a ball- invented over 3500 years ago. The losing team was usually sacrificed. Luckily for Year 6 we did not try this part of the game.

This week we have used many art skills to create an image of the famous Mayan Kukulkan Temple found in Chichen Itza.

Last week, Year 6 really had fun during our Arts Week. We took part in a range of activities including dance, music and art sessions. We focused on the 1960's. The artist's work we looked at was Andy Warhol.
